Adeleke receives new Zone 11 AIG Ewah in Osogbo as focus shifts to security across Osun, Oyo

Osun State Governor, Senator Ademola Adeleke, has received the newly deployed Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 11, AIG Bassey Samuel Ewah, at the Government House in Osogbo, in a meeting highlighting the importance of cooperation between state authorities and the police in maintaining peace and security.

AIG Ewah’s deployment places him at the helm of Zone 11 Police Headquarters in Osogbo, which coordinates policing activities across Osun and Oyo states. He officially assumed duty on September 14, 2026, following his posting to the zonal command.

The senior police officer brings more than three decades of experience to the assignment. He joined the Nigeria Police Force as a Cadet Assistant Superintendent of Police on May 18, 1992, and has served in various operational, administrative, instructional and command positions.

Before his latest deployment, Ewah served as Assistant Inspector-General of Police in charge of Zone 15 in Maiduguri and as Commissioner of Police in Plateau State. His previous assignments also included senior administrative responsibilities at the Force Headquarters in Abuja and the Lagos State Police Command.

His arrival comes at a time when security agencies continue to face the challenge of addressing criminal activities, strengthening intelligence gathering and maintaining public confidence in law enforcement institutions.

Across Osun and Oyo states, effective policing requires coordination among police commands, local authorities, traditional institutions, community leaders and residents, particularly in intelligence sharing and the prompt reporting of suspicious activities.

Ewah has already begun engaging stakeholders in the two states as part of efforts to strengthen police-community relations. During a visit to the Olowu of Kuta, Oba Hammed Adekunle Oyelude Makama, in October, discussions centred on security cooperation, intelligence sharing, community policing and the need to rebuild public confidence in the police.

The AIG has also emphasised the importance of collaboration with community-based organisations in preventing crime and improving public safety.

Governor Adeleke’s reception of the newly deployed zonal police chief provides an opportunity to reinforce cooperation between the Osun State Government and the police leadership responsible for coordinating security operations across the zone.

However, details of the discussions between Adeleke and Ewah, including any specific security commitments or decisions reached during their meeting, were not available in the information reviewed for this report.

As the new AIG settles into his assignment, residents will be watching for stronger security coordination, professional policing, effective responses to criminal complaints and improved protection of lives and property across Osun and Oyo states.
