Edo Police Recover Stolen Toyota Highlander, Close In On Robbery Syndicate

One of Two Vehicles Taken From ADC Chairman’s Benin Residence Recovered As VCRU Intensifies Manhunt

The Edo State Police Command has recovered one of two Toyota Highlander vehicles stolen during a robbery at the residence of the State Chairman of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Hon. Kennedy Odion, in Benin City.

The vehicle, with registration number LSR 729 HY, was recovered around the New Benin axis following days of intelligence gathering and coordinated operations by detectives attached to the Command’s Violent Crime Response Unit (VCRU).

The robbery occurred on September 6, 2026, at Odion’s residence off Winners Road, Ihie Community, Benin City.

The latest development represents the first major breakthrough publicly disclosed by the Police since the incident, as investigators intensify efforts to dismantle the criminal network allegedly responsible for the attack.

Sources within the investigation said the recovery followed intelligence-led operations launched after the robbery, with detectives tracking leads believed to be connected to the movement of the stolen vehicles.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Patrick Daaor, psc(+), mnips, had visited the scene shortly after the incident and directed the VCRU to intensify the investigation and pursue the perpetrators.

Police authorities said the recovery of the Highlander was not the end of the operation, stressing that detectives are still working to locate the second vehicle and other property reportedly stolen during the robbery.

The Command is also closing in on persons suspected of belonging to the robbery syndicate, although the Police have yet to publicly disclose the identities of any suspects in connection with the case.

The recovery comes amid growing attention on the security situation in Benin City and the ability of criminal networks to target prominent residents and move stolen vehicles out of crime scenes.

Police authorities, however, said the latest breakthrough demonstrates the Command’s determination to prevent criminals from operating with impunity in Edo State.

CP Daaor urged residents to remain vigilant and assist investigators by providing credible information about suspicious persons, movements and activities.

He stressed the importance of timely intelligence from members of the public in preventing criminal operations, tracing suspects and recovering stolen property.

The Police Command said its investigation remains active, with the recovery of the second Highlander and other stolen items now among the immediate priorities of the operation.

The identities of those eventually arrested and the specific roles they allegedly played in the robbery are expected to become clearer as the investigation progresses.

The Command also reminded members of the public that complaints against police personnel can be directed to its Complaint Response Unit in Benin through 0810 038 9992 and 0815 099 9335.

For emergencies, the Command provided the following numbers: 08077773721, 08067551618, 08056776365, 08123827225 and 08037646272.

The latest development was contained in a statement issued on Friday, September 11, by the Edo State Police Public Relations Officer, ASP Eno Ikoedem, anipr.

The Police said operations to recover the remaining stolen property and apprehend those behind the robbery are continuing.
