Midnight Domestic Dispute Ends in Tragedy as Pastor Allegedly Machetes Wife Before Fatal Encounter on Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway

A tragic incident has thrown residents of Akiode community in Ogun State into shock after a Celestial Church of Christ pastor, identified as Bidemi Odukoya, allegedly killed his wife during a midnight domestic dispute before reportedly taking his own life.
Odukoya, said to be the Shepherd of Iri Orun Parish of the Celestial Church of Christ and a father of three boys, allegedly attacked his wife with a machete during the incident, which reportedly occurred at about 2:00 a.m. on Monday, August 31.
According to reports surrounding the incident, the dispute was allegedly connected to accusations of infidelity. However, the exact circumstances leading to the confrontation, including what transpired immediately before the attack, remain subject to investigation.
Following the alleged attack on his wife, Odukoya reportedly fled the community and headed towards Coker Junction along the Ifo section of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway.
The location is said to be about 20 minutes away from Akiode community.
Reports indicate that the pastor later allegedly ran into the path of a moving truck, resulting in his death at the scene.
The deaths of both husband and wife have left members of the community and those who knew the family deeply traumatised, particularly because the incident reportedly involved a religious leader and occurred within the family home.
The couple were reportedly buried beside their residence later on Monday evening.
The tragic development has also raised fresh concerns about the dangers of unresolved domestic disputes, allegations of infidelity and violent confrontations within families.
While details circulating about the motive remain allegations, authorities are expected to establish the full circumstances surrounding the deaths and determine exactly what happened before, during and after the reported domestic confrontation.
The incident also highlights the need for people facing serious marital or family conflicts to seek intervention from trusted relatives, community leaders, counsellors or relevant authorities rather than allowing disputes to escalate into violence.
For the three children reportedly left behind by the couple, the tragedy represents an especially devastating loss, as they are now confronted with the death of both parents in the same incident.
Residents are expected to await further information from the police and other relevant authorities as investigations continue into the circumstances surrounding the deaths.
