2Baba’s Wife Takes Over From Charity Aiguobarueghian as House Confirms New Minority Leadership
BENIN CITY, EDO STATE | AUGUST 17, 2026
Hon. Natasha Osawaru-Idibia, representing Egor Constituency, has emerged as the new Minority Leader of the Edo State House of Assembly, replacing Hon. Charity Aiguobarueghian.
The development was announced during proceedings of the Edo State House of Assembly in Benin City today.
Natasha Osawaru-Idibia, who is married to Nigerian music star Innocent Ujah Idibia, popularly known as 2Baba, becomes one of the principal opposition figures in the Edo legislature.
Her emergence follows a major political realignment in the Assembly, with Natasha and other lawmakers recently moving to the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC.
The change also follows the earlier controversy surrounding the proposed replacement of Charity Aiguobarueghian as Minority Leader.
The NDC had previously nominated Natasha Osawaru for the Minority Leader position after the political realignment in the House.
Earlier reports had indicated that the Assembly initially stepped down the request, citing the need for proper parliamentary procedure.
Today’s development now marks a significant change in the leadership of the opposition side of the Edo State House of Assembly.
Charity Aiguobarueghian had previously served as Minority Leader following the emergence of the APC as the majority party in the House.
Natasha’s elevation is expected to further reshape the political dynamics of the Edo legislature, particularly following the movement of lawmakers into the NDC and the emergence of the party as a significant opposition force in the Assembly.
As Minority Leader, Natasha is expected to coordinate the activities of opposition lawmakers and play a prominent role in legislative debates, scrutiny of government policies and representation of opposition interests within the House.
The development also places the Edo lawmaker at the centre of increasing political activity ahead of the 2027 general elections.
