Senate Finance Committee Chairman Says Northern Voters Will Back Tinubu-Shettima Ticket for Second Term
Chairman of the Senate Committee on Finance, Senator Sani Musa, has praised President Bola Tinubu for retaining Vice President Kashim Shettima as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election, describing the decision as a major political boost for the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Niger East senator said the President’s decision had strengthened the APC’s political position in northern Nigeria and renewed confidence among supporters ahead of the 2027 general election.
According to Musa, the retention of Shettima has given the ruling party “full control of the North” as preparations intensify for the next presidential poll.
He expressed confidence that voters across the region would overwhelmingly support the Tinubu-Shettima ticket in the bid for a second term.
«”The President’s decision is the most delightful gesture to the people of Northern Nigeria. Every person in Northern Nigeria is ready to re-elect President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Kashim Shettima in 2027,” Musa said.»
The senator argued that the move had dealt a major political setback to opposition parties and critics seeking to challenge President Tinubu’s re-election ambition.
He described Vice President Shettima as a key pillar of the administration’s political strength in the North, commending his role in fostering unity across the region.
“This is in spite of the machinations of some disgruntled elements who wanted to use a few frictions to cause disaffection among the people,” he added.
Musa also praised the Vice President’s contributions to governance, saying Shettima has consistently worked to promote national unity and support the administration’s objectives.
“We have also seen how Kashim Shettima has been working to help the government maintain a united North and indeed the whole of Nigeria,” he said.
The lawmaker further commended Shettima’s international engagements, noting that he has represented President Tinubu effectively at global forums.
“We have also seen how he has been competently representing the President on world stages,” Musa added.
President Tinubu recently formally unveiled Vice President Shettima as his running mate for the 2027 presidential election after submitting his nomination forms to the APC National Working Committee in Abuja through his Special Adviser on Political Affairs, Ibrahim Masari.
The nomination ceremony was attended by members of the APC National Working Committee and other party leaders.
